The UK’s lockdown means that we will all be spending most of our time inside our homes for the foreseeable future – and many of us will be watching even more TV than usual too!

Check out these tips below for accessing audio description on TV and streaming sites:

Netflix

Audio Description is available for most Netflix original titles, as well as select other movies and TV shows. Titles that currently have audio descriptions available can be found at netflix.com/browse/audio-description. Some TV shows may not have audio descriptions available for all seasons or episodes.

 

BBC iPlayer

Sign language and audio described programmes can be found in the Sign Language and Audio Described pages accessed via the BBC iPlayer Categories menu. You can also just simply search for your favourite.

 

Amazon Prime

Many Prime Video titles include subtitles, captions, alternate audio, and Audio Descriptions. You can enable these features during the playback of titles that include them. Many Prime Video titles include subtitles, alternative tracks, audio descriptions, or a combination of those. The range of supported features will depend on the device you are using. 

ITV Hub 

ITV Hub currently have Audio Description on our Android and iOS apps for users able to access Android or iOS devices.

ITV Hub are looking at providing Audio Description content facilities across all devices and platforms and they hope to be able to offer it soon. 

All4

Audio description is currently available on some content on the All4.com website, represented by an 'AD' icon within the playback menu. This will allow audio feedback for visually impaired users giving extra description of what is happening on screen, sometimes during the dialogue. Select the logo to enable audio description. See the available audio described programming on All 4.

iPhone and iPad now support AD on streaming content. Where available, there will be an AD button displayed on the player.
